Whether distractions are helpful in the long run has yet to be determined, but right now I don’t care. It’s the weekend and I’m going to relax: workout, drink coffee, read, and make plans for the new house. That sounds a lot better than sulking.
Now that the renovation is finally under way I can start focusing on our needs and wants room-by-room. First up is the kitchen. Other than the bathroom, this is the room that requires the most work. We’re gutting it, and to say that I’m thrilled is a massive understatement. The current state, which I’ll post photos of later, is frustratingly dark and bland. I want to brighten it up as much as possible. The photos above give an idea of the look we’re going for.
Aside from a few items like a larger food processor, trivets, and serving ware (every time guests come over we’re calling up my mother-in-law to borrow something of hers), David and I have what we need. Or we at least make due with what we have. That doesn’t stop me from wanting things though, pretty things. Since we’re going with open shelving for our mix-and-match dishes (not everyone’s thing, I know), I want the rest of the kitchen to be a bit more calm. Square white subway tile, concrete counters, grey light fixtures, medium toned wood cabinets, stainless steel and lots of it. And of course beautiful accessories to warm up the space can’t hurt. Due to the kitchen’s size we were unable to include a built-in island. The extra counter space would definitely be useful, so the plan is to find a smaller island that can be moved out of the way if need be. Below are several things I wouldn’t mind using and displaying around our new kitchen.
