I have a wishlist a mile long, but with the official start of Winter close at hand, nothing appeals to me quite like the offerings at Portland based Alder & Co. It’s been a tough year, and I’m aiming for a relaxed, purposed end to 2016 and start to 2017, with a major emphasis on comfort. These goods do the trick. If my husband hadn’t already gotten my Christmas gifts, I’d be sending this list immediately.

//Button up blouse for dressing up or down without the fuss.
//Brass pin for subtle interest on a sweater or jacket.
//Relaxed jeans in black for feeling comfortable and put together.
//Wool socks for a utilitarian and stylish touch.
//A grey coat to wear with all my favorite oversized pieces.
//Canvas tote for exciting holiday travels.
//Striped pajamas for lounging in bed with a good book.
//A beautiful honey jar to display on the counter–for easy access when sweetening the copious amounts of hot tea I’ll be drinking.
//A shallow black bowl for serving up those warm winter dishes I’ve been wanting to try.

Pretty Basic

Good Bones // Pretty Basic

For the past five or six years I’ve been drawn to dressing simply. Gone are the cringe worthy days of pink shirts and bright yellow eyeshadow–hello, high school–or the bizarre vintage patterns and combinations I experimented with in college. Neutral colors and subtle patterns speak to me in a way that loud or colorful garments don’t anymore. I do love a good statement piece, but that’s not what I usually want to spend my money on. I’ve often toyed with the idea of developing a uniform, but I never take the plunge. Oddly it’s hard to let go even though having too many options is overwhelming to me. This uniform would likely consist of nothing but boxy, asymmetrical silhouettes–my favorite. Basics can make a statement by themselves and I love that. Here’s what’s on my wish list right now.
