Changing Seasons

Changing Seasons | Good Bones

Changing Seasons | Good BonesChanging Seasons | Good Bones

Here we are, September nearly over, and the last post I made was about spring/summer fashion early in May. I didn’t intend to take such a long break, or even a break at all, but life often gets in the way of our plans. I’ve been struggling lately, personally and creatively. Chronic back pain (for which I’ve started seeing a chiropractor–it helps!), depression and anxiety, and busyness have all kept me from feeling like my best self. But Fall has always been my favorite season so I’m starting to see a bit of light ahead, starting to feel inspired again. I have a few exciting events on the horizon, the spider lilies have bloomed, and mornings have given way to that refreshing chill in the air–little things that bring joy to the forefront of my mind. It’s good to be getting back to this space not out of obligation but after a small yet significant rush of the creative energy I’ve been missing.

Los Angeles based wrk-shp, the design duo made up of Ryan Upton and Airi Isoda, easily earns a spot in my list of top five favorite clothing brands with their architecture inspired designs that bring a softness to the utilitarian. It’s fun to play around with bold choices, but I always feel grounded in timeless and versatile pieces like these. Simple boxy shapes, clean lines, and neutral shades are certainly having a moment, but the details in wrk-shp’s SS17 collection–a button closure or belt, the sleeves, the texture and draping–are what make it even more special. My favorite sweater from fall/winter is by wrk-shp and their spring/summer line does not disappoint.

This collection drew inspiration from Japanese architecture group SANAA, of Kazuyo Seijima & Ryue Nishizawa. Their buildings are known to use transparency and translucency with pale tones and soft curves. –wrk-shp

*Forgive me for another extended absence but I’ve had a lot going on and some lows that made blogging about clothes and interiors seem pretty disingenuous–a regular experience it seems. But today I figured I’d just go for it using whatever time I have. I’m locked away in my office with our anxious dogs while our kitchen backsplash is being installed. I can’t wait to finally reveal it!

I cannot get enough of these incredible hand woven pillows by Hanna of Afternoon Swim. With a background in interior design and a love of textiles, Hanna blends art and function in the best possible way. Intricate detail adds textural warmth to her geometric designs, making these pillows the ultimate art object. See more of Hanna’s stunning pieces on her website and follow along here.

I have a lot to say about turning 30 in less than two weeks, most of which I’m nervous about sharing –though I’m trying to work up the courage. So instead here are a few lovely goods that piqued my interest in recent months–for my closet, body, and home. Weeks ago I requested one specific item from my husband for my 30th birthday and it’s not any of these things, but what can I say, making wishlists is fun.

//Nisolo mules–I’ve been wanting a pair of tan/sand colored mules for years and these, with their modest heel, strike a nice balance between style and practicality.
//This Tie Blazer from Lauren Winter’s recently released SS17 collection is a dream.
//A fragrant candle with well-designed packaging–yes please.
//A natural woven tote for spring and summer day trips I’ve been planning. Coming up is a quick drive to Columbia, SC to hit up our favorite spots and hopefully the zoo.
//I try not to buy any pottery that’s too similar to something I already own, and without a doubt this stunner of a vase by Ashley Hardy is unlike any other in my collection.
//A pink brooch to wear with my spring and summer denim jackets, because offbeat shapes and designs have a place in my wardrobe no matter how old I get.
//Everyday Oil since I’m terrible about moisturizing anything other than my face and at 30 that definitely needs to change.
//Boxy linen tee, because no other shape (or material!) makes me feel more comfortable and at ease.

My best friend discovered Love Birds while living in India and I’m thankful she passed on the recommendation to me. Their aesthetic is reminiscent of the more playful, art and structure driven outfits I used to gravitate towards. I’m nostalgic for that time in my life and my wardrobe, and I think it’s a focus I need to revisit. See more of their stunning collection here and follow along here.

A Few Things

A Few Things | Good Bones

A Few Things | Good BonesA Few Things | Good Bones A Few Things | Good Bones

The first few months of the year have been a blur. I’ve been cancelling events and dates left and right, struggling to gain my footing amidst feeling low, busyness, illness, and chronic back pain. Now, in the month I turn 30, I’m hoping to slow down and regroup a bit, starting with posting more regularly here.

//I came across the sweetest wandering puppy while out and about one day and couldn’t bear to leave her, so we took her home. After checking for a microchip and searching for the owner, we came up empty but were able to find her a forever home with some friends of ours. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t get attached in the 3 and a half weeks she stayed with us, but her new home is the best place for her and we’re so thrilled she’s there. It was tough and inconvenient to juggle her and our three dogs, two of whom aren’t terribly friendly with new dogs, but it was worth it. She’s not the first pup we’ve rescued and I know she won’t be the last.

//It’s a comfort for me, in times of stress, to clean and rearrange, so I’ve been making small changes to the house that are likely only noticeable to me. Our space is constantly overflowing with books so we got new bookshelves (with a discount code and on sale!) and are hoping to get one more at some point to balance it out. I spend a lot more time at home than I want to–battling depression and unexplained back pain–so it’s nice to be surrounded by things that bring me joy. I hesitate to even mention it, because it seems whenever I do something delays it, but the renovations that were never finished (our old contractor went out of business) should be fully underway at the beginning of April (some prep work is actually starting today!), which really isn’t that far off. I’m looking forward to the house being done, and then starting on the deck/patio. Here’s hoping it’ll be finished in time for a few summer parties.

//Some old and new skincare favorites. I most recently purchased Balm & Co.’s strawberry chamomile Botanical Clay Cleanser from Goodwin and I could not be happier with it. It smells divine and leaves my skin feeling so, so soft. This is one I’ll definitely be restocking.

First Rite’s Spring/Summer collection features a lovely mix of modern and classic details, so of course I’m in love. And the colors! This palette is definitely one I’ll have on repeat for spring.

I’m not sure what happened to winter–temperatures have been in the 70s all week. I don’t exactly need these cozy sweaters but it’s fun to pretend.
