Refined Cool

Brian Paquette's Seattle Condo

Brian Paquette's Seattle CondoBrian Paquette's Seattle Condo

Considering I’ve drooled over Brian Paquette’s previous Seattle home on FvF countless times, I can’t believe I missed the condo he designed for himself in this Domino feature from last year.

I’ve always been intrigued by a physical move–a chance to take the same objects and give them new life in a new space, to reinvent. The cool, limited color palette, earthy ceramics, and unique art speak volumes to me. He’s created such intriguing and cozy layers throughout the space that I’m scheming up ways to reimagine my own. Brian’s collection of ceramic wares from some of my favorite artists, like Morgan Peck, Ben Medansky, and Bari Ziperstein, gets me every time. If ever there were a time to have house envy, this would be it. Though his interior design work tends to be more clean and put together than my home, I find his aesthetic incredibly relatable and dripping with personality, even here in a new build. Refined and elegant without being cold and unattainable. I can’t wait to see what Brian does next.

Bright spaces getting me through the wait on the renovation. What I love most is how simple and unfussy they are. I’ll definitely be channeling these calm and cozy vibes when we move. The concrete bathroom sink is actually pretty close to how I’ve planned ours to be. So good.

Brian W. Ferry for Dwell

Brian W. Ferry for Dwell

Brian W. Ferry has been a favorite photographer of mine for some time now and I can’t help but feel a little giddy whenever I see the latest post from the blue hour in my Feedly. I’m particularly fond of his still life as well as the work he does for Harry’s Five O’Clock Magazine and Freunde von Freunden. There’s something very special about the way he captures the seemingly ordinary–details we might naturally overlook are made prominent and essential. He photographed a home in São Paulo for the cover story of Dwell’s February 2015 issue. The photographs, shot with medium format film, enliven the space in a way that makes it seem familiar and comfortable yet also so striking and beautiful. I’ve found myself coming back to it again and again.

// These incredible MM6 by Maison Martin Margiela looks.
// The bright, calm home of Katie Paterson seen on FvF. I love the white walls and warm woods. Also, her project Future Library is mind blowing–a remarkable gesture of faith in the preservation of the past and future. Margaret Atwood is a fitting first contributor.
// Ceramics by Malinda Reich at QUITOKEETO. The entire shop is gorgeous, actually, but especially these one-of-a-kind vessels. The hand-carved patterns and muted glazes are really beautiful.

Lonely Estate

Good Bones // Lonely Estate

These are photos I was given permission to take at a house nearby. The first time I walked in, I knew I had to come back with my camera. My eyes were drawn to stunning textures and patterns, so many intriguing scenes left behind. The house seemed to tell a million stories, and I loved walking through, making up my own. I don’t know when I’ll get to pick up my camera again, so I’m especially grateful I was able to capture this beautiful home halted and worn by time.
