Bedroom Dreams

25 May, 2015

Book/Shop matte black bookcase

An unexpected visit to the ER on Friday (my kidney is swollen again) resulted in me spending a lot of time in bed the last few days. It’s given me a chance to think more about what makes a room relaxing–a place where I can feel calm even when circumstances are less than ideal.

Right now our room has a lot going on–it’s large and packed with furniture, patterns, and color. Here are some smartly designed things I’m coveting in my imaginary bedroom overhaul. They’d be perfect coupled with our white bed frame and the linen duvet cover I plan to get. We have so much art, pottery, and books–things that are incredibly diverse and pack a big punch when collected–so it’s nice to keep furniture more pared down to balance it out. I’m looking forward to moving some of the furniture in our room now to a different part of the house when the renovation is done this summer. Our bedroom will be smaller so I want to limit it to just a few things. Less is definitely more when it comes to decorating the bedroom. I want our space to be free of visual clutter but still cozy. Add a few plants and this just about does it.

David recently gave me the sweetest gift, a beautiful Morgan Peck sculpture. I’ve been a fan for a long time and I’m so thrilled to now have her work as part of my ceramics collection. David is always finding ways to make me feel special and I love knowing he cares about my interests. His birthday is coming up and I’m really looking forward to doing the same for him. He can be tough to buy presents for but I’m getting better at it and can’t wait to surprise him!

I love the look of these beautifully designed goods at The Line and may have to give them a try. I certainly appreciate product and packaging that doesn’t neglect aesthetic, doing away with the need to hide things away. I can imagine all of these items neatly displayed in the bathroom of our new house. They’d complement the matte black shower tiles, concrete counters, and marble hexagon floor tiles so well.

Spring on My Mind

Good Bones | Spring on My Mind

All the talk about spring has me wanting to lighten up both my wardrobe and my home, especially during this cold and gloomy week (my mood, forever linked to the weather). This part of the south can hardly complain about frigid temperatures but I’m still just about over it and desperate for warmth. Remember when I was looking forward to sweater weather? Fickle, fickle woman.

The back detail on the Rachel Comey Zanzibar top is stunning. It just made the number one spot (aka the only spot, at that price) on my birthday wishlist. I’m not sure where birthdays fit into my desire to simplify my belongings, but I’m working on that.

Good Things

Good Bones // Good Things

My inbox is full of emails about after Christmas sales and some great new arrivals are trickling in everywhere it seems. It’s tough to restrain myself mentally but quite easy in reality–my Christmas money is already spent on much needed items. Still, here are a few things that caught my eye.Good Bones // Good Things

Kim Thome Lump Candleholders Michele Quan Eye Sculpture

// Kim Thome Lump Candleholders. I never thought I’d be dying for brass candleholders or black candles, but there’s a first time for everything.
// Michele Quan eye sculpture is somehow elegant and creepy at the same time (also the eye ornament which I really want for the tree this year but sadly is over twice my budget).
