Collection Seven from New York based Gamma Folk is a statement lover’s dream. Rough textured and subdued neutrals pair well with the more bold hues, adding unexpected dimension to these beautiful sculptural pieces–art for both body and home. The collection features handformed clay and naturally dyed materials, woven details, and elemental modern shapes that provide a major dose of tactile intrigue. I’m especially in love with the Ionia Earrings, Agni Earrings (you can’t go wrong with mix-and-match earrings), Myrto Vessel, and Zois Wall Hanging. Take a look and shop the full collection here.

I cannot get enough of these incredible hand woven pillows by Hanna of Afternoon Swim. With a background in interior design and a love of textiles, Hanna blends art and function in the best possible way. Intricate detail adds textural warmth to her geometric designs, making these pillows the ultimate art object. See more of Hanna’s stunning pieces on her website and follow along here.

These are new collages I have in SEEDS, a group exhibition at Westobou Gallery up until January 27. If you’re local, be sure to stop buy and see the wonderful show! At the opening reception, several people commented on the unexpected, minimal direction my collages have taken, but to me it’s where I’ve been for quite some time. It drew my attention to how much I keep my art to myself, but here I am trying to remedy that.

All work is available for sale–contact me if interested.

I’m very drawn to this furniture series by Vancouver based design studio wolke, made up of Patrick Campbell and Madison Killough. The chair, bench, and low table are both art and object–with clean, minimal lines and light wood tones that move beyond the standard confines of form and function, offering versatility and adaptability. Stripped of the unnecessary, these pieces are left with thoughtful design that still maintains interest. Find more inspiration on their website and Instagram.

Sadie Culberson

I recently discovered the evocative work of Sadie Culberson, a wedding and portrait photographer based in Asheville, North Carolina. Culberson’s visual storytelling through artfully captured portraits, candid moments, and landscapes resonates with me in the most familiar and grand way. I feel a beautiful intimacy in these images–a soothing gracefulness mixed with a sense of splendor.

All is living, shifting art that takes my breath away. Nothing starves for attention or is too flashy, but quaint and rhythmic. This where I see beauty. –Sadie Culberson Studios

She has certainly made a follower out of me. Find more of her stirring images here.

Working Out from A to Z

20 January, 2016

I definitely appreciate having a sense of humor about the ridiculous world of health and fitness, especially the dash we make to the gym in January hoping for instant results. Carolyn Figel’s daily animation series Working Out from A to Z started out as a take on just that. In my mind she nails it with these unexpected and perfectly witty depictions of a sometimes misguided and overly serious gym and self-improvement culture. That guy doing planks? That’s me, my love/hate relationship with exercise personified. Carolyn’s ace typography and sound selections make these bizarre scenes all the more brilliant. Here’s to working out and not taking yourself too seriously in 2016. Check out the rest of the series so far and find more of Carolyn’s work on her website.
